For all the fires not yet lit: Work in Progress

  • Fireside Festival

"Stories can conquer fear, you know. They make the heart bigger."

Claire Lyons’s fiancé doesn’t think she should make a speech at their wedding reception, neither does her mother. And yesterday she stayed swimming in the slow lane, despite her legs wanting to push her faster. And so it is that a morning outing to get some milk turns into an odyssey of minute proportions where small risks have big consequences and timid Claire surprises herself and others. Over the next 24 hours our unsuspecting heroine goes on a protest, makes friends with a shoplifter, ends up in a prison cell and wakes with a very different view of what is or isn’t possible.

Interwoven with small, tender and mighty stories of everyday bravery For all the fires not yet lit is a clarion call to be brave in an age in which we are constantly told to be fearful.
Because courage, like fear, can be contagious.

Take a seat, would you like a cup of tea, a magazine while you're waiting? Don't worry - you're In Good Hands, a small hair salon on the Ennis Road in Co. Clare where people come for the cut and stay for the chats.

In Good Hands is an interactive show inspired by the world of hairdressers - of secrets, trust and our human need to share and connect.

Taking place in a working hair salon a small audience are invited to their ‘appointment’ at this rural Irish salon where hairdresser Julie (Catherine Ireton) makes them feel very much at home while Lisa (Grace Kiely) is getting her hair done for a big night out. Over the next 60 minutes – the time it takes for a wash, cut and blowdry - the small dramas of the lives of Lisa and others of Ballybracken unfold around us. Through a series of original songs and involving the audience to help us tell the story In Good Hands explores the important things we tell complete strangers given the opportunity.

"Best of the festival by a clear and well trimmed head" ★★★★★  WhazOn Cork

Catherine didn’t have a party the night before she left home. She just stepped onto a plane one Tuesday morning full of the joys of a new adventure.  And now: seven jobs, two boyfriends and three flats later…she’s still here. A foreigner in an almost familiar country. Catherine Ireton, lead singer of God Help the Girl (Belle and Sebastian) is joined by multi-instrumentalist Ignacio Agrimbau to tell a playful, wryly observed tale about finding one’s way in the world. Tonight is her leaving home party celebrating all the tiny moments of letting go.
